Do night vision goggles work in a cave? There will be no light in the cave and it will be cold.

If there is no light, then no. Unless you have the heat sensing kind.

Interesting question
I have a few different types of night vision goggles. Never tried them in a cave. I have-however used them in areas that are completely dark. Enclosed basements, etc.

And can easily see all the objects in the rooms. Good enough to read print on magazines.
With the “IR”( Infrared Illuminator ) of course turned on.

Not being an experienced spelunker suggest you contact someone that is-for your safety of course.

Night Vision Goggles come in 2 primary types, those which amplify ambient light, and those which use infrared sensing. Neither will work in a cave without some source of light. The IR scope I used in the Army on the TOW missile could watch a field mouse at 300 meters, but anything colder than about 50 degrees fahrenheit looked black. In a cave everything but a human or bat would show up as black. The type which amplify the available light would need a light source in a cave to work. They can make a very weak light seem incredibly bright, but they must have light to work.

Not unless they are Infrared Goggles. Cave Dark means there is NO light.

Go in a cave or any room completely void of light. Close your eyes for a minute like you would if you were outside at night letting your pupils dialate to see better. Then open them and put your hand in front of your face. In a cave you’ll still see nothing.

Night vision goggles depend on a light source. If there is no light, there is nothing for the goggles to amplify.

If they are equipped with an infared illuminator, then yes, they will. Battery life might be a problem though. Make sure you know how long battery life is and take plenty extras.

I doubt it.

yes as long as you have an IR (infra red) illuminator
